The Challenge
During my two years of Master's study, I had the opportunity to create an innovative digital personal project. The main objective was to explore all aspects of entrepreneurship, from concept to financial planning. My specialization in UX Design led me to choose a user-centric approach for my project, and I wanted it to meet specific criteria:
Accessibility: The solution must meet a maximum of WCAG accessibility standards (keyboard navigation, compatibility with screen readers, adaptive design, etc.).
Inclusivity: Medalio should be designed to address all populations equally, regardless of gender, nationality, beliefs, etc., in its formulations and the options it offers.
Availability: Medalio should be accessible from various devices to allow easy and universal access to stored data (mobile, desktop, offline).
GDPR Compliance: Informing users, obtaining explicit consent, limiting data collection, securing data, and respecting user rights. OPQUAST certification proposed for tech/product teams.
Eco-responsibility: Limiting file size and automatic compression, limited storage space, and resource sharing.
Process
I've adopted a user-centric approach, and iterative design ensuring that the project met the target audience's needs and preferences effectively.
Research and analysis : The first stage involved researching and analyzing the target audience's financial needs, preferences, and pain points. I conducted surveys, interviews, and market research to gain insights into user behavior and preferences.
Market study : This phase encompassed concept development, competitive benchmarking, and the creation of a value proposition.
Technical specifications : I outlined the project's technical specifications, including goal trees, functional scope, technical function table, UI/UX design, and risk analysis.
Project management : I focused on project management and risk mitigation strategies.
Acquisition strategy : This stage involved defining the marketing mix, SMART objectives, analysis of acquisition channels, and brand design.
Funding : Finally, I prepared an executive summary for financing purposes
Solution
I defined a precise functional scope for the Minimum Viable Product, including a set of essential features to meet user needs and ensure that the app's user-friendly interface and intuitive design.
Advance Directive Form : Allows the user to record their end-of-life wishes, such as designating a trusted person, specifying desired/declined medical treatments, outlining funeral arrangements, etc.
Guardian : Gives users the ability to designate guardians who can unlock the private content in our digital vault using email identification + name/last name + encryption key.
Digital Identity : Safely stores login information (password, email address, username, etc.) for various organizations, whether administrative, social, or otherwise. This feature facilitates account closure by the designated guardian(s) when unlocking the vault.
Collaborative Space : The family space enables secure data sharing among authorized users, ensuring that only members can access shared data through access controls. The contents of the private vault cannot be shared, but some of its content can be duplicated in a family space.
Family Tree : Available in the family space, it is connected to an enriched demographic database to suggest ancestry links. Multiple views are available (direct parents, personal descendants, multi-connections).
Multi-Factor Authentication : Authentication mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users have access to the stored data. Authentication can be performed using passwords, security keys, or other multi-factor authentication mechanisms.
Backup and Recovery : To ensure the integrity of stored data by preventing data from being altered or corrupted during storage or transfer. Stored data remains accessible in case of system failure or data loss.
Key takeaways
The objectives of my business plan are as follows :
Achieve a 20% market share in the digital safe market within the next 3 years.
Raise €70,000 in funding for the Medalio project by the end of an 8-month crowdfunding campaign.
Reach 5,000 active users by the end of the third year of operation.
